The word "ocean" is taken from the Greek
word Okeanos - a great river and the source of all water 水 shuǐ.
Oceans 海洋 hǎi yáng cover about 70% of our planet Earth 地 球 dì qiú. They play a crucial role in producing oxygen 氧 yǎng and they regulate the temperature 温度wēn dù and weather 天气 tiān qì.
Oceans 海洋 hǎi yáng are habitats to many living things 生物 shēng wù. Interestingly, many of the living things 生物 shēng wù in oceans 海 洋 hǎi yáng are yet to be discovered 发 现 fā xiàn. Today, many scientists 科 学家 kē xué jiā are studying about the oceans 海洋 hǎi yáng to help protect them. Oceanographers 海洋学家 hǎi yáng xué jiā study the oceans 海洋 hǎi yáng.
