The study of science 科学 kē xué is systematic ( adjectives 形容词 of system 系统) because it follows a series of steps 一系列步骤.

These steps help scientists 科学家 and students carry out a proper scientific investigation.
   
These steps are called the Scientific Method 科学方法 and they consist of

o   Identifying a Problem 调查一个问题
    -   Making an observation 观察
    -   Making an inference 推理 (from the observation 观察)
o   Identifying the variables 变量
o   Forming a hypothesis 假设 (形 成假设)
o   Controlling the variables 变量
o   Planning and conducting the experiment 实验
o   Collecting data 数据 (收集数据)
o   Analysing data 数据
o   Making a conclusion 结论
o   Writing a report 报告
