
What is it?
Baju Kebaya is a dress consisting of a blouse and a sarong
(a sheet of wide cloth joined at both sides).
Who wears
it?
It is worn mainly by Malay women.
When is it
worn?
As it is rather tight (but through time
时
间 shí jiān, it became less
so and thus more suited for women of the Islamic faith),
Baju Kebaya is usually worn during special occasions, such
as weddings.
Where did
it come from?
Some say it came from the Arabic word habaya which
means a long dress with a split in the front. There are
others who say that it was the Portuguese who brought the
dress (fashion) to Melaka.


Pakaian wanita yang terdiri daripada blaus dan sehelai sarong. Sarong merupakan sehelai kain lebar yang disambung pada kedua hujungnya.
Siapakah yang memakainya?
Lazimnya dipakai oleh wanita Melayu.
Bilakah ianya dipakai?
Biasanya pada majlis-majlis atau upacara-upacara seperti
majlis perkahwinan. Baju kebaya ditanggap sebagai pakaian
ketat yang menonjolkan bentuk badan. Akan tetapi dengan
perubahan masa, pakaian ini telah menjadi lebih longgar
yakni lebih sesuai untuk wanita beragama
Islam.
