Xian 西安 xī ān is the capital of the province of Shaanxi 陕西省shǎn xī shěng, China 中国 zhōng guó. Literally translated, Xian 西安 xī ān means Peace 安 ān in the West 西 xī. Historically, Xian was known as Changan 长安 cháng ān (literal translation: Long or Eternal Peace). Changan 长 安 cháng ān - the capital of more than ten dynasties - is steeped in history.

Xian/Changan is often considered at the eastern starting point of the Silk Road. Changan
长 安 cháng ān was the city Xuanzang 玄奘 xuán zàng began and ended his Journey to the West.
