Alzheimer's Disease
老年痴呆 lǎo nián chī dāi
Brain cells 细 胞 xì bāo - also called
neurons - are destroyed causing the sufferer to lose
memory. He or she then has trouble thinking and
behaving. Scientists 科学家 kē xué jiā are still
unsure of the reasons why the neurons fail to function
and eventually die. However, it has been discovered that
two different changes occur in the brain
脑
nǎo of patients of this disease
疾 jí.
They are
1) the build-up of amyloid into plaques
2) tangles get accumulated inside the neurons.
Alzheimer's Disease 老年痴呆 lǎo nián chī dāi usually begins after the age of 60. It starts slowly and then the symptoms 症状 zhèng zhuàng usually worsen with the progress of time 时间 shí jiān.
