We see these colours because of reflected light. The three primary colours of pigments are Red, Yellow and Blue. (Compare these with primary colours of light.) Such colours are known as subtractive colours because they are still there after after direct light colours are absorbed (subtracted).

The combination (addition) of these three Primary Colours result in the following Secondary Colours:

     
Kita dapat melihat warna-warna primer ini kerana pantulan cahaya yang berlaku di atas permukaan jasad. Tiga warna primer pigmen (bezakan dengan warna primer cahaya) ialah Merah, Kuning dan Biru. Warna-warna begini dikenali sebagai warna-warna penolakan kerana Merah, Kuning and Biru masih kekal setelah warna-warna cahaya lain yang disinarkan telah diserap.
