This area used to be a pass (opening so that one can get from one point to another usually through a barrier). On the right side of the pass was a stone 石 shí that caught the eye of many travellers. The stone 石 shí had the shape of an elephant 象 xiàng on its knees awaiting load to be placed on its back.
