Saigon Notre Dame Cathedral Basilica
(Ho Chi Minh City)
The official
name of this place
of worship
is the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of
The Immaculate Conception. However, it is
frequently referred to as the Saigon Notre
Dame Cathedral. This is because the French
(when they colonized Vietnam)
built and named it Notre Dame de
Saigon. Construction began in 1863
CE and the cathedral opened its doors in
1880 CE. The
original red
bricks used to
construct the
building were
imported from
Marseille,
France.
This
awe-inspiring building - which projects an
aura of spirituality - is one of the most
visited places in Ho
Chi Minh City,
Vietnam.
It is located within walking distance from
the Reunification Palace and the Saigon
Central Post Office.
