Diamonds
The
word
diamond is derived from the Greek
word "unbreakable".
Diamonds
are
the strongest natural raw substance. They can only be
cut by another diamond, or a laser cutting tool. These
gemstones come in many colours: black, red, pink,
brown and orange. However, white diamonds are the most
popular. Many people consider them the most beautiful.
The most expensive diamond is the pink diamond as they
are rare. Diamonds, some say, are a girl's best
friend.
Diamonds
are made
of carbon atoms
that
are covalently bonded together. Most natural
diamonds are formed under high pressure and
temperature in the craton (a part of the
lithosphere)
of the Earth.
Diamonds
are
valued for their strength, hardness and beauty.
The beauty of diamonds comes from its ability
to reflect and refract light.
The refractive
index
of
diamond is 2.4.
