RFID
stands for Radio
Frequency IDentification
射频识别 shè pín shí bié. A RFID tag is a transponder
(device) that receives a radio wave sent by a RFID reader and
returns the signal with information added to it. A RFID tag
stores digital information. The tag can therefore provide a
unique identifier for the object (including living things)
that it - the tag - is attached to. In terms of
hardware, a RFID tag contains an integrated circuit and an
aerial / antenna. A remote RFID reader scans and reads the
information on the tag. It is deemed by some users that RFID
has an advantage over
magnetic stripes and bar codes as RFID tags do not have to be
placed at precise locations in order for the information to be
read.
