Tributary System

This
was the traditional way in which the Chinese dealt with foreign
relations until the early 20th century. China did not rule nor occupy
the states they visited or came in contact with. Instead, the rulers
of the vassal states (the states that were subordinate to China) paid
tribute (gifts) to the Chinese Emperor.
The
Bunga Mas was an example of tribute (gift) made by the northern
states of Malaysia to the King of Siam (Thailand).
Sistem Ufti
Sistem
ini merupakan cara tradisional negara Cina mengendalikan perhubungan
luar negeri sehingga awal abad ke-20. Negara Cina tidak menakluki
negeri-negeri yang dikunjungi mereka. Sebaliknya,
pemerintah-pemerintah negeri suruhan membayar ufti kepada Maharaja Cina.
Bunga
Mas ialah contoh ufti yang dibayar oleh negeri-negeri di
utara Semenanjung Malaysia kepada Raja Siam.
