Active: 551-479 B.C.E.
Native of:
State of Lu 鲁 / today Shandong 山 东
Dynasty: Zhou 周代
Background:
public teacher, magistrate and minister of justice
Contributions:
Even
in his twenties, he had already started sharing lessons from
the past with young Chinese. He emphasised on moral character
values. He championed the principles of strong familial
loyalty, ancestor worship, respect of elders by their children
and of husbands by their wives, and the family as a basis for
an ideal government. He devoted a major part of his life to
restore the Zhou Dynasty 周
代 to its glorious
past - with peace, order and harmony.
Perhaps
his greatest contribution of all is that his thoughts and
ideas became the foundation of Chinese philosophy -
particularly in the area of morality - and thus affected and
still affects the lives of millions of Chinese.
