The element number 82 is lead. It is a metal. The Latin name for lead is Plumbum and hence, the symbol for lead is Pb. Lead was used by the Romans to make pipes, among other things. The name plumbum gave rise to the word "plumber". A plumber is a person who works on and repairs pipes. Lead is a neurotoxin and therefore it harms our nerve cells (such as our brain cells.) A few historians believe that lead-poisoning was one of the contributing factors to the fall of the Roman Empire.
