At the railway station, we were greeted by our hosts from the
Chulalongkorn University. For the next few days in Bangkok,
we had the honour of staying at a student hostel in one of the
most prestigious and oldest university in Thailand. The undergraduates who attended
to us were terrific hosts. Their hospitality was reflective of
the way the Thai people cherished their guests then, and how
they treat their visitors now.
Thus, it is of little wonder why at the time of writing, Bangkok
is the most
visited city in the world. Additionally, Thailand
is one of the most popular countries among tourists and
travellers.
The photo
above shows the students of Chulalongkorn University and the
Science University of Malaysia posing with the equestrian
monument of King
Chulalongkorn in
the background.
I am reminded
of a monologue from one of my favourite movies, "Anna
and The King".
(The King in the movie, by the way, is King Mongkut, the
father of King
Chulalongkorn.)
The memorable lines spoken
by Chulalongkorn
in the movie go like this:
"It is always surprising how small a part of life is taken
up by meaningful moments. Most often they're over before
they start even though they cast a light on the future and
make the person who originated them unforgettable."
