Psychotherapeutic Drugs
These
are medicines to treat mental disorders / mental illnesses. They can
be grouped into the following for ease of study. (Note that such drugs
usually cause addiction.)

| stimulants - cause the brain to be stimulated / excited and increases alertness |
amphetamine, cocaine, caffeine |
| antidepressants - increase the level of neurotransmitters in the brain; ;cause the person to be calm (sleepy) and reduces depression, improves mood |
barbiturate (sleeping pill), tranquilisers / sedatives |
| antipsychotics - treat symptoms of serious (severe) mental disorders / psychosis / schizophrenia improves mood |
