Data science 数据科学 is an interdisciplinary field of knowledge. (The adjectives 形容词 xíng róng cí "interdisplinary" is used to describe knowledge that is not specific to one area but relates to more than one category.) People who are experts in data science (called data scientists) and those studying it have the objective to extract value from the data (in particular, they are working on the data that exists in the Internet and in Information & Communication Systems).
Among the skills required the acquisition of data science are ICT (Information and Communication Technology), business, mathematics and statistics.
