English Expression
"to be made a scapegoat of"
A
scapegoat is a person, object, or idea that we put the blame on when
something goes wrong.
The word scapegoat comes from the Bible. Leviticus 16-8 states:
He (Aaron) is to cast lots for the two goats - one for the Lord
and the other for the scapegoat. The scapegoat became the
animal which is released to the wilderness after the Jewish priest
had, in a symbolic manner, put the sins of the people on it.
