This write-up may contain spoilers. Having said that, the story - although heart-warming and uplifting - is rather predictable. The Finest Hours is based on a true rescue account of the US Coast Guard off the coast of Cape Cod on February 18, 1952.

The protagonist of the story is coxswain Bernie Webber. Bernie is portrayed as a daring and determined man who would not abandon his mission once he has set his heart upon it. He is also a rebel who goes against the command of his Coast Guard Officer during the mission.

Bernie, like many other protagonists of movies of similar themes, can be grouped into Apple's group of "Crazy Ones" from the "Think Different" commercial.
