To many, Al-Khwarizmi is the "Father of Algrebra and
Trigonometry". This is because of the work he did in Al-Jabr
wa al-Muqabala. (The word algebra代数学dài
shù xué has its origin in Al-Jabr.)
Al-Khwarizmi was an elite scholar in The
House of Wisdom (also called the Grand Library
of Baghdad) in today's Iraq. Besides
being hailed as a great
mathematician, he was also an
accomplished geographer and
astronomer.)
He was a native of Khwãrezm and, thus,
his name in Latin 拉丁
is Al-Khwarizmi. The
latinisation of his name also gave rise to the English
word algorithm.
