Holmes is a character created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in his
novels (A Study in Scarlet, The Sign of the Four, The Hound of
the Baskervilles and The Valley of Fear) and in short
stories (The Boscombe Valley Mystery and The Missing
Three-Quarter). Sherlock Holmes is regarded by many as the first
fictional scientific detective who solved cases using deductive
reasoning. Holmes has distinct and recognisable characteristics.
He is tall, often smokes a pipe and wears a "deerstalker" hat. He
resides at 221B, Baker Street, London and has a sidekick named Dr.
